Myrthe Egberink receives scholarship Andrea Elkenbracht Fund
The municipality of Groningen has awarded the annual Andrea Elkenbracht Fund grant to Dutch oboist Myrthe Egberink. The announcement was made during the opening of the new academic year at the Prins Claus Conservatorium, part of Hanze. Egberink received the check from Alderman for Culture, Kirsten de Wrede. The scholarship offers graduates in classical and modern music the opportunity to further develop their talent by participating in a follow-up course abroad.
The Prins Claus Conservatorium says of the winner: "Myrthe distinguishes herself through her exceptional talent. In addition to her studies in Groningen, she has performed several times with the Dutch National Student Orchestra (1st oboe), the PRISMA Festival Orchestra Canada BC (1st oboe), and as a soloist with the ZomerOrkestNederland. She has also played in professional orchestras such as the NNO and the KMK-JWF." In the PRISMA Festival Concerto Competition, Myrthe reached the finals with Goossens' Oboe Concerto. This year, Myrthe will receive her bachelor's degree and has been accepted to the prestigious Royal College of Music in London, where she will pursue a classical master's degree. London has clearly recognized that this young woman has everything it takes to enrich the international music world in a multifaceted way.
Andrea Elkenbracht
The fund was created in memory of Groningen concert pianist and music pedagogue Andrea Elkenbracht. She was the first teacher of professional piano education at the Groningen School of Music in 1918 and taught for 40 years at the predecessor of the Prins Claus Conservatorium. The aim of the fund is to offer follow-up studies abroad to talented graduates. In recent years, the scholarship has been awarded to Robert IJserinkhuijsen (composer), Andrei Makarov (piano), Yuji Shin (saxophone), Alice Andreani (cello), and Julia Doornebosch (violin), among others.
Talent Development 'Make way for talent'
The Andrea Elkenbracht Fund is part of the Groningen municipality's talent development incentives. By awarding this grant, Groningen aims to encourage young talent and offer development opportunities for talented graduates.
