Stichting Jazz in Groningen: Concert with Chris Cheek

This edition of Stichting Jazz in Groningen's annual evening with students from the Prins Claus Conservatorium focusses on the music of guest teacher Chris Cheek, a highly influential contemporary saxophonist from the United States. Together with our talented students from, he will bring his compositions to life in collaboration with conservatoire teacher Mark Haanstra.

Chris Cheek has collaborated with musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Frisell, Charlie Haden and Brad Mehldau. He can make the saxophone sing like a human voice and has the ability to convey profound emotional stories through his music. This concert will feature exclusively Chris’s own compositions. They offer the audience and the musicians a glimpse into the creative mind of this exceptional musician, who, like no other, knows how to combine simplicity with depth.
