Besides its own halls, the Prince Claus Conservatoire also uses venues in and outside the city of Groningen for study projects.
Venues
Traditional venues for study projects in Groningen include, besides its own halls, the Martinikerk, the Nieuwe Kerk, the Lutherse Kerk and SPOT | De Oosterpoort.
Outside the city: De Nieuwe Kolk and Podium Zuidhaege in Assen, De Harmonie and the Groate Kerk in Leeuwarden, the ATLAS Theatre in Emmen and various churches in the provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe.
Students also play at very diverse city-Groningen venues such as Brouwerij Martinus, Le Petit Theatre, De Smederij, Buckshot Café and the Grand Theatre.
Besides these traditional venues, we also make music at unexpected places such as Museum Aan de A, the Groninger Museum, the UMCG, Memorial Centre Kamp Westerbork, ZINN location De Brink, in school classes, neighbourhood and youth centres.
Examples of special productions include the WadOpera Peter Grimes and Hollands Hoop by Zummerbühne.
The WadOpera, which played in 2021 behind the dyke near the Frisian hamlet of Paesens Moddergat, was initiated by alumnus Arnaud Oosterbaan. In the orchestra and choir, we saw lots of familiar faces.
The same was true of the successful summer production Hollands Hoop, which sold out on all evenings in 2022. Initiator was alumnus Reinout Douma together with actor Marcel Hensema. Trumpeter and alumna Suzan Veneman was one of the soloists.
